The legend of the fifth sun tells that the god Xólotl was chosen to give life to the new solar giant, but when he jumped into the fire, fear overwhelmed him and he decided to escape to earth. To go unnoticed, he transformed into different animals until he became an axolotl, the gods became furious and when they found him they punished him, leaving him in that form for the rest of eternity.
